Time to feature my new bag.
Vintage John Romain Handbag: I found this bag at the DAV thrift store when I was in Michigan a couple weeks ago. Initially it was the fabric that caught my eye, but once I started examining I could tell immediately that it was old. Then I noticed the price was marked $7.99, which made me even more curious since the rest of the purses were priced around $1.99-$4.99. I pulled out my trusty smart phone and googled the brand. I couldn't find much, but I saw a few auctions and that was good enough. I pretty much figured it would be worth the buy, the condition is awesome. My first vintage handbag!
I know nothing about vintage bags, but based on my (very little) research John Romain purses were pretty popular in the late 60's - early 70's. eBay has some auctions for different styles, but the wide range of pricing is making it difficult for me to determine whether or not I got a sweet deal.
Any thoughts?
Anyone know anything about these bags, this style?
By the way, this is my new lace skirt from F21 and my $.25 cent shoes.
I had such a busy day today (including my first visit to a Goodwill Outlet). I can't wait to tell you about it tomorrow.
That purse is beautiful! I know nothing about the brand but the colors together are a perfect combo and it looks brand new!

ReplyDeleteYou got a VERY good buy. John Romain handbags were very popular in the Washington, D.C. metro area in the early-to-mid 60's. For the times, they were quite expensive. I did extra chores and babysitting for neighbors to be able to afford mine, which was $45 in 1963. I still have it, to this day!
ReplyDeleteI remember John Romain when I was in school. I think when I noticed them was in the 60's as I graduated in the 72 they were the Coach of the time.

(junior high for me ) we all had to have them, along with weejuns and villager dresses. i am back at my parent's house at the moment and crying cause my john romain collection is MIA!!
ReplyDeleteYou got a great deal ms.girl! I grew up with John Romain. I got my first one when I was in Middle School it was small. As I grew my mother gave me larger ones. At the time you had the opportunity to trade up. If anything ever! happened to a John Romain you could send it back to the company they would fix it or replace it. I am looking for a John Romain.
ReplyDeleteI am selling a John Romain on ebay like this one but its blue with leather trim. it came with the warranty card inside and its even got a date stamped on it ! it is very nice for a vintage purse I can say some one took good care of it too. well just for your info its still own this minute.
DeleteI'm a GW regular too . Today I.found a fabulous leather John Romain shoulder bag in excellent condition. I hadn't heard if this designer and looked it up so I bought it for 3.99
